In memory of a photographer

Prabuddha Dasgupta was a renowned Indian photographer of both art and fashion. I was lucky enough to be invited along to his memorial service yesterday at the National Gallery of Modern Art by Vikram. At first it was the National Gallery building itself that impressed me. It is such a well-kept historic building and the couryard had been decorated with romantic jasmine flowers for the occasion. The result being that the sweet aroma spread across where we were sitting while friends and colleagues held speeches in memory of Prabuddha.

Prabuddha Dasgupta's work is a fantastic mix of the love for his gorgeous girlfriend Lakshmi and the raw imagery of Nepalese mountains and a sense for beauty beyond the fashion studio and photoshopped unreality.

Images above are from his personal series Longing and Ladakh and a commissioned spread for Ritu Kumar. For some reason I prefer his work for small and unknown magazines over his work for Vogue and Hermés.
